Yikes it’s been awhile since I have last wrote.  Watson has been keeping me on my paws!  I hope you all had a great Fourth of July.  I have been very busy lately, including visiting the cardiologist!  Don’t worry, I received a heart healthy cookie for being so good.  Did you know that there are veterinary specialists?  For example, there are dermatologists, internists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, ophthalmologists, and the list goes on but that’s all I can spell for now.  They go to school for an extra period of time specializing in certain areas of veterinary medicine, just like in people.  They usually have advanced tools to help them in their specialty.  Your regular veterinarians are important for detecting disease and knowing when a certain breed is at risk for developing certain diseases.  They can then work with specialists to ensure that us pets get the best possible care, with a team based approach!  Who wouldn’t want the best care?  I was lucky to have a pet parent who knows that Dobermans are predisposed to heart disease, so I went to the cardiologist for a screening checkup.  While I do have a slight heart murmur, my heart has not changed in six months, so that’s great news!
