Kyra's Korner

Introducing new pets

By riverviewaniamlhospJuly 28, 2016July 26th, 2022No Comments

Watson here, filling in for Kyra! Kuroi the cat and I have not always been the best of friends. But here, you can see us enjoying the couch together. In the beginning, I was the annoying brother that would chase Kuroi around the house. But Kuroi did (and still does) have high places to jump to get away from me and to feel safe. He has a litter box that he can feel comfortable using knowing that I am not going to disturb him. And his food and water dish are separated by a baby gate, that he can jump over, but I can’t get through (unfortunately…) When I was first brought into the house I was not left unsupervised with Kuroi, to make sure that I wasn’t going to chase him and that he wasn’t going to chase me. Slow, gradual introductions are very important when bringing new pets into the house. Introducing new pets if done correctly can lead to an easy, smooth transition. If you’re getting a new pet this summer, make sure to talk to your veterinarian about some tips on introducing them!
