Today is check the chip day!

Today is CHECK THE CHIP DAY! I (Kyra) am microchipped along with my brothers Watson and Kuroi. Microchipping is safe, quick and pretty painless (even this little puppy pictured here was big enough to be microchipped). It can be done at any regular appointment or while your pet is sedated for an anesthetic procedure. The microchip is the size of a grain of rice, it’s placed under the skin in between the shoulder blades and when scanned an individual number pops up. The veterinarian’s office or shelter then puts that number into a database to see what contact information is associated with that number. Today is a reminder to not only encourage microchipping but to also make sure your contact information is up to date with the microchip company. Owners move, get new phone numbers and may have new emergency contacts. It is important that if your pet is lost and a microchip is scanned and found that your information is correct so that you can be contacted and reunited with your pet! We also recommend scanning for the chip once a year to make sure it is still present, as sometimes the chips can migrate or rarely even be pushed out from under the skin.
